Filomena Furtado, I was born in Lisbon to Capeverdean parents. I did my basic education in Portugal and then moved to London. I have a BA Hons degree in Journalism from the London College of Printing (now University of the Arts, London). I also have a Masters Degree in International Journalism from City University, London.
Professionally, I have worked in retail while I was studying and consequently I gained a lot of experience within customer services. In addition, my work experience also includes two years with the Commonwealth Business Council (CBC). Here I gained some experience in trade conferences, international relations, event management and administration, as well as in Secretariat.
I am currently an Office Manager for a well-established independent parliamentary and public affairs consultancy firm. The organisation provides Secretariat services to clients and works in Westminster, Whitehall, the EU and the devolved administrations.
In my free time, first of all I take pleasure from spending time with my family. I also enjoy days-out and going to the cinema and I like reading. Recently I have also been able to start discovering the pleasures of travelling. Getting to know a bit more about different places and people is a very good way of spending my free time.
I volunteer with local projects in my free time because I enjoy participating in local community projects that promote social integration, cultural diversity and encourage young people and parents to be active.
Finally, if you would like to get to know me a bit more you can read about some of my experiences in the ‘Articles’ section of this blog.
Enjoy and feel free to contact me with comments questions or general messages… And, in conclusion thank you to Nuno Sarmento, Web Developer, for helping me build this blog!
