Cape Verde Votes for New President
UK Diaspora votes
Cabo Verde: Capeverdeans all over the world voted today to decide on who will be the next President. In the UK the Diaspora had the opportunity to vote for the first time. This because previously there had never been an electoral polling station for those residing here.
The turnout was of around 35 per cent. Of the 81 people eligible to vote, 29 exercised that right. Noteworthy, the electoral registration in London had been hampered by bad weather.
The London results gave victory to Aristides Raimundo Lima who got 11 votes against 8 cast for Jorge Carlos de Almeida Fonseca, followed by Manuel Inocênio Sousa with 6 votes. In London no votes were cast for Joaquim Jaime Monteiro.
The presidential elections took place on 7 August 2011.
